The use of DI water for cleaning laboratory chemical equipment is important because it has no electric charge and has a relatively neutral pH. Non-DI water sticking to the side of the glassware will most likely change the pH of the solution added and cause systematic errors in subsequent calculations. 

All washed laboratory instruments should be dried carefully with a cloth that does not remove or leave any other residue. Just remove excess water from the instrument. Scientific laboratory equipment too often breaks down, but is worse if handled roughly or isn't stored properly and hidden cracks or chemical coatings form. 

Many chemical experiments require the use of strong acids and bases, which must be found in glassware. If it comes into contact with skin, it can cause severe burns. Glassware that has hidden cracks is less likely to break when filled with solution or collide during an experiment.
